The Tallest Human Being Alive
The world’s tallest human being alive is one Sultan Kösen; a Turkish who was born on 10th December 1982 in Mardin, Turkey.
The Guinness World Records crowned him as the tallest human being alive/tallest man alive on 9th Feb 2011 in Ankara, Turkey with a height of 2.51 m (8 ft. 3 in). The previous holder of the title as the tallest human being alive/tallest man alive is Bao Xishun from Inner Mongolia, China who stands 2.36 m (7 ft. 8.9 in).
Sultan Kösen’s vertical growth as the world’s tallest human being alive has resulted from a tumor affecting his pituitary gland and this has seen him using crutches in order to walk from one place to another and although he dropped out of school because of the complications of his height, Kösen still claims to enjoy the pleasures of life one of them being playing computer games with his friends.

Advantages of being the tallest human being alive/tallest living human being
- Seeing a great distance
- Being able to help his family with domestic tasks such as changing light bulbs and hanging curtains
Disadvantages of being the tallest human being alive/tallest person alive today
- Not being able to readily find clothes [inside leg measuring 44.5 inches (113 cm) and sleeve length measuring 38 inches (97 cm)]
- Not being able to readily find shoes (size 28) that fit
- Finding it extremely hard to fit into an average-sized car
As of 2010, Sultan Kösen started receiving Gamma Knife treatment at the University Of Virginia Medical School for his pituitary tumor that was causing excess growth hormone and gigantism. Although the effects of the treatment he received takes up to 2 years, Kösen’s hormone levels were recorded to be almost normal in March 2012 and it was also confirmed that the treatment he’d been receiving was effective in halting his growth. In order to fit his large skull, special equipment had to be flown in from Sweden.
Sultan Kösen a.k.a the world’s tallest human being alive also holds the title as the human being with the largest hands (11.22 inches or 28.5 centimeters) and largest feet (14.4 inches or 36.5 centimeters) as of 8th February 2011. He lives with his parents, three brothers and sister, all of whom are of normal height and when he’s not touring the world, Sultan Kösen works part time as a farmer to support his family.
