Most people would prefer having a simple easy to remember phone number though most of the time this is not the case as not all the mobile phone companies give their clients the privilege of choosing their phone numbers. This was however not the case when it came to the purchase of 666 6666, the most expensive phone number in the world. It took away the title from a Chinese number; 8888 8888 that had previously sold for £270,000 to Sichuan Airlines. So what did the most expensive phone number in the world sell for? A whooping £1.5m or 10m Qatari riyals. The purchase took place on 22^nd May 2006 in Qatar. The bidding started off with 8 interested parties but was soon narrowed down to just two bidders. The “devilish” number has since then raised a lot of eyebrows and turned quite a number of heads though some have come out claiming it’s a holy number in Judaism as it represents six directions: Up-Down-North-South-East-West. The entire auction was organized by national telco Qtel and all the proceeds generated were donated to charity.
