How To Make Money With Google AdSense (Part 1)
Last time we looked at “How I Got My AdSense Account Application Accepted After It Was Rejected” so today we’ll look at how to make money with Google AdSense.
As we saw earlier in our first segment on “What Is Google AdSense And How Does Google AdSense Work”, Google AdSense is a PPC program which makes it possible for publishers (bloggers included) to make money from Google by displaying AdSense Ads on their respective sites. This therefore means that anyone planning to make money with AdSense must first have a Google AdSense account then proceed to place the AdSense Ads on their blogs and this is what we shall look at in order to see how to make money with AdSense.
How To Make Money With Google AdSense: Creating Your AdSense Ad Codes
You’ll first need to login to your Google AdSense account from where you’ll have the option of viewing your AdSense account either in the classic or low bandwidth view. You’ll want to choose the classic view since this is how you’ll be able to edit your Google AdSense ads (It might take some time to load depending on your internet speed). Once it loads up, you should be taken to your Google AdSense home page from where you’ll see three additional tabs namely; My ads, Allow & block ads and performance reports. You should proceed to click on “My ads”tab since this is where you’ll be able to add new ad units.
Adding AdSense Ad Units From Your Google AdSense Account
Once you’ve clicked on “My ads” tab next to the “Home” tab, you should proceed to click on the New Ad Unit tab from where you’ll be taken to a new page that will allow you to:
- Name your AdSense Unit ad-It would be wise to name it in relation to where you intend to place it e.g. if you want to place it on the top right area of your blog, then name it something like “Top Right Ad”. This will later help you to easily see how well it’s performing instead of having to look at the code to identify which ad it is.
- Choose Ad size– Keep in mind that wider AdSense ads tend to perform better and that some sizes do not display all ad types.
- Choose Ad type-You can choose to have text ads only, text and image/rich media ads or image/rich media ads alone. It would be wise to choose text and image/rich media ads since this gives you more ad inventory as opposed to the others.
- Choose Ad style-How you want your Google AdSense ads to look like e.g. their color and corner style.
- Choose Backup ads and custom channels.
Once you’re done editing your Google AdSense ads, you will need to save and get the code which you will then place on your site to enable you to make money with Google AdSense.
How To Make Money With Google AdSense-Placing Your AdSense Ad Codes
There are basically two ways on how you can place the AdSense ad code(s) you’ve generated above onto your site:
- Manually adding it to your blogs HTML code
- Using a Google AdSense WordPress Plugin
Now I don’t know about you but I’m no expert when it comes to coding nor do is see why I should stress myself by adding the AdSense ad codes manually so this is why I personally use a Google AdSense WordPress Plugin to automatically insert the AdSense ad codes in my blog’s HTML. The plugin I use is called Quick AdSense which according to my own opinion is the best Google AdSense WordPress plugin given all the others I’ve used before and you can read about it in this post I made a while back. It is important to note that you cannot make money with Google AdSense if you don’t confirm your AdSense account. Even though you may make money with AdSense, Google will not send you your AdSense earnings if you don’t confirm your account using your Google AdSense Personal Identification Number (PIN) which they’ll send you.
How To Confirm Your Google AdSense Personal Identification Number (PIN)
There should be an alert in your Google AdSense account about confirming your account and once you click on it, you should be taken to a page where Google will ask you to confirm your email address which they will use to send your Google AdSense Personal Identification Number. Although it might take a couple of weeks for the PIN to reach you (Google will post it by mail), it’s a good idea to request for it even as you think of how to make money with Google AdSense so that when you finally make money with AdSense, you’ll have access to your AdSense earnings. Once you receive the PIN, you’ll need to login to your Google AdSense account and submit it after which you’ll be able access your Google AdSense earnings.
NB: You only have 3 chances to enter the PIN in order to verify your AdSense account. If your third and last try is unsuccessful, Google will close down your AdSense account.
There’s still a lot more to be covered on how to make money with Google AdSense but for now I’ll end it here. In the next post on how to make money with Google AdSense (part 2), we’ll look at the best Google AdSense ads to use, the best locations to place your AdSense ads in order to maximize your earnings, how Google shares their AdSense revenue with publishers and how to monitor your AdSense ads.
