Why A Friendly Tone Is Better

Have you ever come across a blog that seems as if it was written by an army general for his troops?

This is the kind of a blog that has got more official language than the Oxford and Macmillan dictionary combined. Personally, I’ve seen a number of such blogs that almost makes it a requirement to have an online dictionary opened in a new tab just in case.

Whereas such particular bloggers may feel proud of themselves due to their “vocabulary gold mine”, and may often refer to themselves as the “enlightened bloggers”, in reality, they may be annoying a good number of people whose only desire is to “read as they understand”. Unless one is coming up with a blog specifically meant for literature professionals to showcase their expertise, I would advice anyone planning to come up with a blog to be simple, clear and precise in their posts.

The reason why I say the above is because it can become quite irritating to read a couple of words in someone’s blog only for your mind to start drifting away and you find yourself going over the very same sentence over and over again. In the end, most people will simply forget about your blog and move on to one which is simpler to understand.

When blogging, it is important to understand that not everyone is a “Language Specialist” hence one should write their posts in a friendly tone; as though they were talking face to face with their friend as this will go a long way in ensuring that you package and deliver your content in a manner that anyone who understand your language is able to understand what you are saying.

Care should however be taken not to confuse a friendly tone with “plain language”. Plain language here refers to a language that has only the normal wording and sayings and is in nature boring to read; it has 0% captivating words. Not very many people would also be interested in reading a post that lacks “taste”.

One way to ensure that your posts are written in a friendly tone and captivating to your readers is to think about how you would tell your friend what you’re planning to write, then write it like that (of course in a way that others might also understand).

One of the main benefits of a friendly tone is that it enables your readers to see you as a friend as opposed to an online stranger and to somehow also relate with what you’re saying. This creates a conducive environment for a long term relationship to bloom between you and your readers, and believe you me; every blogger needs a couple if not thousands of faithful followers.

So next time you’re thinking about how to package your words, just remember that you’re communicating with your “potential friends” so do it in a friendly tone-don’t over think too much, just take a deep breath and write as though you were talking to them face to face because you never know, maybe one day you just might will.
