Ashley Cole’s $145,000 Tweet Fine
Social media is becoming an integral part of our everyday lives and now more than ever people need to be more careful regarding how they use it as some are getting to feel the effects of abusing it.
The latest victim of the social media slaughterhouse was one Ashley Cole, a British soccer star who plays left-back for England’s national team and English Premier League club Chelsea.
Ashley Cole was on Thursday (18th October 2012) fined £90,000 or $145,000 by the sport’s governing body in England for an obscene Twitter post he directed at the organization last week.
The Football Association’s Independent Regulatory Commission had previously questioned Cole about an incident where his team-mate John Terry had been alleged to have abused QPR’s Anton Ferdinand but the commission later cast doubt on the credibility of Cole’s testimony when it released its report on the investigation.

Cole feeling mighty courageous, posted the following tweet on October 5th
The soccer star deleted his tweet soon after but by that time it had already gained more than 17,000 retweets and its screenshots had been widely shared and saved around the web (picture:Digital-Football.com).
The above drama is what resulted in Ashley Cole’s fine of $145,000 on Thursday.
In a post to its website announcing the fine, the Football Association said Cole’s message “was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute” and that he has been “warned as to his future conduct”.
Despite Ashley Cole’s fine of $145,000, he was still on the national team roster for England’s 1-1 draw with Poland in World Cup qualifying match, so it seems he was lucky enough to avoid a suspension though he’s not out of the woods yet as Chelsea is expected to levy its own punishment against him soon so the football superstar may find himself “visiting his ATM” in the near future to add more $$ into his initial $145,000 tweet fine.
Ashley Cole’s Chelsea teammate John Terry was recently dealt a four-match suspension for racial abuse against an opposing player.
