Why Blog Categories Can Make Or Break Your Blog
If you’re a frequent online visitor then there’s a good chance that you’ve come across blogs ranging from different niches and if you happen to be a blogger, then you need to know that blog categories can make or break your blog and if you don’t believe me, just take a look at some of your most favorite blogs and you’ll see what I mean.
But Can Blog Categories Really Make Or Break Your Blog?
Yes, Yes and YES and here’s why:
When you have too many blog categories then your blog looks somehow disorganized or unspecific and on the other hand, when you have very few blog categories then your blog looks somehow needy or unfinished.
Given that none of the above 2 scenarios are “healthy” for your online business, care should be taken to tread safely when it comes to the issue of how many blog categories are on your blog and the best way to shield yourself from landing in any one of the above two brackets is by:
Only including blog categories that are necessary and discarding those that are not
This means that you should ONLY include blog categories that you feel reflect your blog’s main theme e.g. if your niche is Fishing then only have blog categories that talk about fishing and not how to make money online.
Last Word On Why Blog Categories Can Make Or Break Your Blog
Unless you want to compete with Mashable, Huffington Post and other similar giant sites, then you should avoid having too many blog categories such that your readers end up overwhelmed when trying to choose which blog category to read which might result in them abandoning your blog all together.
You should therefore try to have as few blog categories as possible (but not too few) so that 1)Your blog readers have an easy time when navigating through your blog and 2) Your blog attains that professional look and believe you me, first impression matters.
As always, feel free to share what your thoughts are on the role of blog categories and how many of them are enough; I’d certainly love to hear from
