Nadia Farmiga Career

Prior to being a restaurateur, Nadia Farmiga worked in mechanical engineering.

She then changed her career to venture into the food and drink industry.

One of the places she worked earlier on in her new career was Manhattan Bistro in SoHo.

It was there that she met her husband and business partner Wilson Costa.

They both worked together for a while at Le Garrick Restaurant in Manhattan’s theatre district and then moved to Kingston.

Nadia started at The Downtown Café in Kingston and then worked as a floor manager and server at Terrapin in Rhinebeck. She worked there for 17 years.

Her husband Wilson worked for kitchens like Le Canard Enchaine in Kingston and Terrapin.

After opening Café Nouba, a Thai restaurant next to Le Canard Enchaine, Wilson went on to work as executive chef at Gigi Hudson Valley in Rhinebeck. He worked there for 10 years then moved to Ca’Mea in Hudson where he worked for 5 years.

The duo started Misto, a catering, delivery and pop-up food business in 2020 as a way of adjusting to COVID-19 which dealt a big blow to the brick and mortar hospitality side of business.

Here’s what Nadia Farmiga said during a past interview with Times Union:

“When restaurants closed, we were home and had no choice but to reinvent ourselves”

Having their own restaurant has allowed the power couple to be their own bosses, have more control over their schedules, spend more time with their kids and even get time for a date night.

They have been able to take their kids to soccer practice, piano lessons and even Taekwondo training.

Misto is Portuguese for mixed and is pronounced as /’mistu/

The name was inspired by an eatery where they both ate during a trip to Brazil, Wilson’s where Wilson was born.

Here’s what Nadia Farmiga is quoted as saying on their website:

Wilson liked the name, its meaning in Portuguese, “mixed,” and the fact that it was an easy name to remember. Misto describes us. Misto describes our food, where we grew up, and our cultural heritages.”

Nadia Farmiga MIsto EatsMisto is all about mixture, medley, and the harmony between two distinct things. It features rich dishes from their respective Brazilian and Ukrainian heritages.

Wilson Costa and Nadia Farmiga love to use locally sourced ingredients with some having been grown from their own backyard!

They have a passion for open-fire cooking which allows them to cook for their customers almost anywhere.

On their Misto website, they pride themselves on being a Brazilian husband and Ukrainian wife team.

The current delivery locations of Misto include Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Germantown, Rhinecliff, Milan, Hudson and Tivoli.

It is worth noting that they offer a gluten-free menu. Here’s what she said during a past interview:

“Our family eats 100-percent gluten-free because we feel better when we do”

To reinforce their healthy clean lifestyle, Nadia also mentioned:

“As a chef, Wilson’s number one priority is a clean kitchen, food consistency, and well-seasoned food,” Nadia says. “Misto is about our healthy lifestyle (Wilson cycles and I run), our family, our garden, sustainability, using resources of the Hudson Valley, and our connection with the farmers.”
