He got a taste of being in the limelight when he was young as there are many pictures online showing him being carried by his famous dad.

Unfortunately, his parents split though they were never officially married.

He has a younger half-brother called Henry Tadeusz Farrell who was born on 7th October 2009 in Los Angeles, CA.

James Padraig Farrell – His Fight With Angelman Syndrome

Four years after his birth, Colin his dad revealed that James Padraig Farrell was born with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.

In 2017, Colin told the People:

“When James took his first steps a couple weeks short of his fourth birthday, it was pretty amazing and humbling to see,”

He went on to state that:

“People talk about the children taking the first step, it’s obviously a monumental moment and it’s been represented in film. But to be told your child may never take the first step and then see those first steps is just kind of a different sport all together.”

In 2021, Colin Farrell and his former lover Kim Bordenave filed a conservatorship for their son James Padraig Farrell, just months before he turned 18 in September.

They filed a joint petition so that they could have the legal power to continue making decisions on behalf of their son who has Angelman syndrome.

They stated in their legal documents that James Padraig Farrell continues to be in need of daily assistance, including preparing food and getting dressed.

They were seeking court permission to be in charge of finding proper housing for their son, power to access confidential records, withhold consent of marriage, enter into contracts, give medical consent and the power to make educational decisions.

What You Need To Know About Angelman Syndrome

Angelman syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. It is typically characterized by physical and mental disabilities, including intellectual disability, seizures, developmental delays, impaired speech and movement issues. 

It can result in frequent laughter or smiling as well as hand-flapping gestures. 

This condition was first identified in 1965 by British paediatrician Dr. Harry Angelman who observed similar symptoms among three of his patients. 

Since then it has been extensively studied and research continues to provide valuable insights into the causes and treatment of Angelman Syndrome (AS). 

Though there is yet no cure for AS, there are treatments available that can help individuals manage their symptoms better and improve the quality of life for those affected. 

Early intervention therapies like physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy have proven beneficial in helping children with AS reach their full potential.

Colin Farell broke down in tears just after his son James Padraig Farrell was born.

At first, he thought they were tears of happiness but later realized they meant more – he feared becoming a father when he was a dr*g addict.

He realized that he needed help to become sober so he went to rehab in 2005, two years after his son was born.

He become sober and on many occasions, he has attributed his eldest son being his greatest motivation to become and stay sober.
