Imitation Is Limitation

It’s easier to talk about what you know rather than what you have a faint idea about. I admit sometimes everyone, myself included love to seem knowledgeable about complex things that we have spent a lot of time and energy to come up with rather than sticking to what we know best and the output most of the time isn’t as breathtaking as we might have previously thought it would be. For bloggers in particular, it’s important that they express what they know best in their own words, not in those of another due to the simple fact that “when walking in someone else’s shadow, you will rarely get noticed”. It’s paramount not to waste your sense of imagination by trying to replicate that of others and there’s no better time to quote John Mason than now by stating that “Imitation Is Limitation”. Trying to imitate others be it blogging or in other spheres of life may not get you their exact results and even if it does you can never grow to be bigger and better than them.
There’s this story of a frog that lived in a well and all this time the well seemed big enough. When he finally got the guts to climb out of the well, he noticed a pond and said “My ooh my, look at all this water, how come I wasted a big chunk of my life in that well?” Further ahead, the frog came across a lake and at this point it was jumping up and down with excitement at the large mass of water. He still went on ahead and came across a sea and by this time the frog had almost gone mad. It couldn’t imagine how it had spent all its life in a tiny well whereas there was so much to see and experience.
Likewise with life and our day to day jobs, careers and hobbies, we should always be on the move from the various “tiny wells” in our lives to bigger better things. Always remember that in the midst of BIG there is an I.
