The 2 Different Types Of Entrepreneurs

Last time we looked at the 7 main types of Internet Entrepreneurs so today we’ll look at the different types of Entrepreneurs and to be specific, the 2 different types of Entrepreneurs.

In case you might be thinking that we’re looking at the same thing we looked at last time, lemme take a minute or two to explain what the difference is between the “different types of Entrepreneurs” and the “main types of internet entrepreneurs.”

Different Types Of Entrepreneurs Vs. Main Types Of Internet Entrepreneurs

Different Types Of Entrepreneurs-This refers to the broader category of ENTREPRENEURS (inclusive of both the internet and “physical” entrepreneurs) in relation to how they start and run their respective businesses.

Main Types Of Internet Entrepreneurs-This refers to the specific categories of INTERNET ENTREPRENEURS in relation to the types of internet businesses they are involved in.

Let’s now look at who the 2 different types of Entrepreneurs are courtesy of my “Entrepreneurship Skills” lecturer (can’t quite remember her name) back from when I was still in campus, a couple of years ago.

Different Types Of Entrepreneurs #1: Craft Entrepreneurs

These type of Entrepreneurs use their own set of skills to start and run their businesses though at certain points in time their businesses stagnate.

Different Types Of Entrepreneurs #2: Opportunistic Entrepreneurs

These type of Entrepreneurs have the skills to start and run a business but they opt to employ/hire other skilled people to run their businesses. Their businesses rarely stagnate because they hire skilled personnel who bring in fresh ideas.

2 Different Types Of Entrepreneurs: Examples

A Craft Entrepreneur

If you’re the only brains and workforce of a particular business, then you’re definitely a craft entrepreneur.

A good example here would be a blogger (who also doubles up as an affiliate marketer) who runs his/her online business alone with no outside help whatsoever i.e. they don’t outsource people to do things like writing posts, sales pages, generate leads etc..

An Opportunistic Entrepreneur

If you are the brains behind a particular business but hire other qualified people to run it for you, then you’re definitely an opportunistic entrepreneur.

A good example here would be a blogger (who also doubles up as an affiliate marketer) who has created a blog but instead of doing all the work themselves, they opt to outsource qualified people to do the “weight lifting” for them e.g. they hire freelance writers to provide content on their blogs.

The 2 Different Types Of Entrepreneurs: Who Is Better?

Although it might be tempting to say that the opportunistic entrepreneur is the best, the truth is that the two different types of entrepreneurs each have their own merits and demerits e.g. a craft entrepreneur is always confident that they are the only ones in control of their business while an opportunistic entrepreneur is at times suspicious as to whether his/her employees are plotting something.

On the other hand, the business of an opportunistic entrepreneur never stagnates while that of a craft entrepreneur stagnates every now and then, because it lacks fresh ideas like that of an opportunistic entrepreneur.

The question now begs, who among the 2 different types of Entrepreneurs are you?
