Dustin Moskovitz is the world’s youngest billionaire thanks to his Facebook shares (about 7%) in addition to being 8 days younger than Mark Zuckerberg who at one point held the title as the world’s youngest billionaire.
Dustin Moskovitz was Facebook’s third employee and Mark Zuckerberg’s roommate while at Harvard University. After starting the social network in 2004 in their dorm room together with Eduardo Saverin, the duo dropped out of school and headed for Silicon Valley where they formally launched Facebook which has since then gone viral to host over a billion users.

Dustin Moskovitz’s Early Life
Dustin Moskovitz was born in Gainesville, Florida and raised in Ocala, Florida. He went to Vanguard High School where he graduated from the IB Diploma Programme (The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a 2 year educational programme for students aged 16-19. It is recognized by universities worldwide and provides an internationally accepted qualification entry into institutions of higher education).
Dustin Moskovitz went on to attend the prestigious Harvard University where he majored in Economics for 2 years before he and Mark Zuckerberg dropped out and headed for Palo Alto to work full time on Facebook.
Dustin Moskovitz And Facebook
On February 2004, Dustin Moskovitz, Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin and Chris Hughes founded Facebook while in their Harvard University dorm room.
Facebook was originally called thefacebook.com and its main aim then was to aid residential students identify members of other residences.
In June 2004, Dustin Moskovitz and Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard University and took with them their Facebook creation. They shifted their operations to Palo Alto, California where they hired 8 employees. Sean Parker later on joined the pack.
Dustin Moskovitz was Facebook’s first CTO (Chief Technology Officer) then went on to be Vice President of engineering. He was also responsible for overseeing the sites architecture and Facebook’s mobile strategy development.
Dustin Moskovitz Leaves Facebook
On October 3, 2008, Dustin Moskovitz made it public he was leaving Facebook to start Asana with Justin Rosenstein whom Moskovitz had recruited from Google and was at the time Facebook’s engineering manager.
Following speculations over their leave, Mark Zuckerberg released a statement saying “Dustin has always had Facebook’s best interest at heart and will always be someone I turn to for advice”. Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein wanted to create a company which in their words they termed as “will be to your work life what Facebook.com is to your social life”.
After receiving about $10.2 Million from investors (Ron Conway, Peter Thiel, Mitch Kapor, Sean Parker, Benchmark Capital and Andreessen Horowitz in November 2009), Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein presented Asana on February 7, 2011. (Asana is a software app powered by Luna that is designed to improve how employees work on projects and other office activities)
As the world’s youngest billionaire, Dustin Moskovitz still owns more than 132.5 million Facebook shares despite selling about 1% of his shares.
Dustin Moskovitz’s Investments and Philanthropy
Dustin Moskovitz was the biggest investor in Path, a mobile photo sharing site run by David Morin, a former Facebook member. When Google offered Morin $100 Million for his company in February 2011, Dustin Moskovitz’s advice is said to have persuaded him to pass on the offer.
In 2011, Dustin Moskovitz co-founded a philanthropic organization called Good Ventures with his now Fiance Cari Tuna whom he is set to marry in 2013. Cari oversees Good Ventures operations and in June 2012 they announced Good Ventures partnership with GiveWell, a move that will see better transparency in giving.
Despite being the world’s youngest billionaire, Dustin Moskovitz still flies commercially and bikes to work.
