Timothy Mowry – Here Is Everything About The Celebrity Dad

Timothy Mowry is an American former US Army sergeant, best known as the father of the famous identical twin actresses Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry. 

The sisters gained fame for their roles on the hit comedy TV show titled “Sister, Sister”.

He is also the father of the iconic actresses’ younger siblings, Tahj Dayton Mowry and Tavior Mowry, both of whom are actors in their own right.

His ex-wife and mother of his four children is Darlene Mowry.

As an army sergeant, Timothy Mowry served his country proudly and has since dedicated his life to supporting his children in their respective careers.

After completing their service in the army, Mowry and his family moved to California, where he began a new career as a custody officer/jailer with the City of Glendale Police Department (by this time he had married Darlene Mowry and they were parents to Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry).

This role involves overseeing the care and custody of individuals who are being held in jail and requires a high level of responsibility and the ability to handle challenging situations.

Timothy Mowry Marriage and Family

Timothy Mowry and his wife Darlene Mowry ran away to be married at 18 years old in 1975.

Their daughter Tia Mowry revealed in an interview with People a while back that (and I quote):

“My parents, they were in the army. They ran away to be married at 18 years old. It was kind of like a little bit of a shotgun wedding, should I say…They had myself and my sister at 21 years old.”

Three years into their marriage, the couple welcomed their first children, twins Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry were born in Gelnhausen, Germany on 6th July 1978 while Mowry was still in the army. 

When the twins were 2, the family left Germany for Texas before relocating to Hawaii.

They lived there for a couple of years then moved back to Texas where Tia Mowry got an interest in acting. Her mum entered her into print modelling and commercial work.

Though Tia Mowry was steadily booking work in Texas, her parents Timothy Mowry and Darlene realized a relocation to Los Angeles might be necessary to broaden the girls’ on-camera career.

Timothy Mowry would later become a custody officer/jailer with the City of Glendale Police Department in California.

The family later had two more sons; Tahj Mowry who was born on 17th May 1986 and Tavior Mowry who was born on 5th July 1993.

Darlene and Mowry are now grandparents, having raised four children together

Timothy Mowry Divorce

In 2020, Tamera Mowry revealed on the January 24 episode of The Real that her parents, Timothy and Darlene Mowry, had recently divorced. 

She mentioned that her father, Timothy Mowry, had a new girlfriend who is Chinese and that she had met and liked her. 

Here’s what she is quoted as saying:

“So, I finally met her. I absolutely love her, she’s Chinese, oh my gosh. And she is so awesome.”

However, Tamera did not provide any further details about her mother’s love life.

It is possible that Tamera Mowry simply chose not to share more information about her parent’s divorce or her mother’s love life in order to protect their privacy.

Even though Timothy and Darlene are no longer married, the family still gets together for special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. These events provide an opportunity for the family to come together and celebrate their relationships, despite their separation
